Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
 John 1:12-13
Last week, we began to enlighten ourselves about the loving nature of our Father—a love proven across generations, steadfast and unchanging. Today, let’s journey deeper, exploring our part in this eternal process. To subdue the flesh by the Spirit is not a physical achievement, but a spiritual transformation, a work that draws us close to our true destiny: God’s kingdom is promised only to His sons.

If we look carefully at how John 1:12 explains this, the process is clear—it’s divided into the human part (receiving Him and believing in His name) and God’s part of the agreement (the certificate of sonship). Sonship emerges from adoption; God adopted us as His own. And, for every adoption, a seal authenticates the relationship:

He set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
 2 Corinthians 1:22

To be a son is to undergo a supernatural transformation—a complete rebirth into a new life, empowered not by name but by the Spirit. Some translations say “He gave them the power to become the sons of God.” This power, this seal, is confirmed only by the Holy Spirit. It is an error to claim sonship simply by the label “Christian”; sonship is confirmed by power, not title. The Holy Spirit testifies within us:

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

 Romans 8:16

The Spirit is our seal until the return of our Lord Jesus. The rebirth God gives defies any natural process—the flesh dies, and our new reality is a spiritual one as children born of God. Abraham once tried, by his own wisdom, to manifest a son to inherit God’s promises. Yet, he learned: the child of promise comes only through God’s will. True sonship means surrender to that will and to do that we need to believe in Jesus Christ.

To be born of God is to possess the power to overcome sin, as human resolve alone is never enough. Our rebirth grants us victory, not by effort but by divine power:

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

 1 John 5:4

Being born of God means living daily in the power that overcomes the world. As children of the Father, we stand in authority—no curse, sickness, barrenness, or intimidation can conquer us. We are not bound by the limitations of this world; our life is hidden with Christ in God.

This is our victory in Christ Jesus—as sons, we are overcomers! Today, I urge you: invite Jesus into your homes and your hearts once more. Receive Him, believe in Him with your whole heart. He is a loving Father, unfailing and true. Let Him be your source, your hope, your power to overcome.
