We all understand that a house left unfinished doesnât bring honor to its builder. The real glory comes when the project is completed. Jesus Himself, in Luke 14:28, paints this picture: âWho would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?â This shows us that it is always Godâs desire to bring His plans for the world to completion. God is not a God of unfinished projects; His purposes are carefully designed and masterfully executed.
The Old Testament was just the beginningâthe foundation. Its stories and prophecies gradually revealed Godâs ultimate plan. In the fullness of time, that plan was unveiled in the person of Jesus Christ (John 9:4). Jesus repeatedly affirmed that He didnât come on His own, but was sent to fulfill the Fatherâs work. If you read through the Scriptures, you will discover one unifying message: it all points to Jesus.
âFor through Him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we canât seeâsuch as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through Him and for Him.â
Colossians 1:16 (NLT)
Jesus proclaimed this message throughout His earthly ministry. He accomplished every assignment given to Him by the Father. But the most crucial part of Godâs plan is this: Continuity. God never abandons His work halfway. As Jesus neared the conclusion of His earthly mission, He began to point to the futureâthe coming of One who would carry on the Fatherâs agenda.
God has carefully planned it in such a way that the work of this end time is to be carried out by those who live by the Spirit. That is why we cannot afford to live our lives disconnected from the Holy Spiritâthe stakes are too high. The Scripture says in Romans 8:19, âFor all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.â In the same way the world once waited in hope for the revelation of Jesus Christ for salvation (Luke 2:25), now the world waits for the true sons and daughters of God to manifest. The role of the Holy Spirit within us is not just to comfort or empower us for personal benefit, but to connect us to Godâs eternal planâeven one formulated before the creation of the earth. This is not a season for spiritual casualness or play; the business of the Father must continue through us if we desire to partake in His promise.
Acts 1:8 makes it clear: Only when we are empowered by the Holy Spirit can we truly fulfill the assignmentâto be witnesses unto the ends of the earth, to continue what our Father started from the beginning, and to bring His redemption to every corner of creation.
We are joint heirs, not slaves (Romans 8:17), called to multiply the message of Christ beyond the reaches of His earthly ministry (Genesis 1:22). The intent has always been multiplicationâfilling the earth with the knowledge and love of God. Jesus could not, in the body, reach every nation, but when we multiply and move in the Spirit, the good news spreads to all nations.
So, beloved, letâs rise up and do the works of our Father while itâs still day, because the night comes when each of us will give account of how we lived. Allow this truth to stir youâshare the gospel with someone today! If the Holy Spirit only moves you to speak in tongues but not to share the good news, you are missing the heart of His mission.
This series continues next week. Stay rooted in Christ, and may God bless you richly.
