'When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. '
John 16:13
As Jesus approached the completion of His early earthly mission, He began preparing His disciples for the continuation and fulfillment of what He had started. This is why His teaching in John 16 deserves deliberate and prayerful study. It is as if Jesus wanted to pour out profound truth but foresaw that His disciples might be overwhelmed, unable yet to fully grasp it all. That is why He said, “The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). This promise reveals a wonderful principle: the more we seek God’s truth, the more we discover. The deeper we inquire about God, the more we encounter Him—His vastness is neither hidden nor beyond our reach.

The apostle Paul echoes this, praying for believers “to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” (Ephesians 3:18). God invites us with the words, “Draw near to me, and I will draw near to you” (James 4:8). The truth, then, is the pathway that exposes us to the knowledge of God and draws us closer to Him.

The Truth as the Pioneer of Deliverance

â€œAnd you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).

These words carry profound implications. First, to be set free, one must know the truth. Then Jesus adds, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36), affirming that true freedom is found in Him alone. Jesus is not merely speaking of freedom in a general sense—He is declaring Himself the pioneer of true deliverance, made possible through the revelation of truth.

what kind of deliverance is this?

The apostle Paul provides insight, writing,

â€œWe use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.
We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).

Deliverance is not only freedom from demonic forces; its heart lies in freedom from ignorance of God’s Word and truth.
The world so often resists the truth, drowning itself in ignorance. This absence of truth explains the chaos, wars, and conflicts we see around us—and it is precisely why Jesus said the Holy Spirit would lead us into all truth. The Holy Spirit’s role is to expose lies and unveil the reality of God, for wherever truth is rejected, darkness and disorder prevail.

This was evident from the very beginning. Genesis 1:2 describes the earth as “formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep.” It was only when God spoke truth—His creative Word—that light appeared: “Let there be light,” and there was light (Genesis 1:3). This light shattered the darkness and brought order out of chaos.
Just as light resolves darkness, truth resolves confusion and bondage. Lies and deception keep people blind and imprisoned, but truth liberates. That is why Jesus promised the Spirit of truth would guide us—to reveal the real, to expose falsehoods, and to free us from the lies that hold us captive.

The truth, then, can be understood as the ultimate problem solver—the answer to all chaos. When a foundation is built on lies, instability and strife are inevitable. But when Jesus leads us into all truth, He establishes a foundation of freedom and peace.
