"He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him."
John 1:10 NLT
The very essence of being a son is found in having a father. A true father is meant to be our lord and the ultimate source we depend on. This is why we can be called sons of God today—because a Father exists who created all things and holds all authority. This reveals a beautiful truth: a deep connection must exist between a father and a son for that relationship to be real and acknowledged by both. This bond is far greater than any physical connection.

We see a wonderful picture of this in John 10:14:
"I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me."
We can understand this through the relationship of a father and son: "I am a good Father; I know my own children, and my children know me." This shows us that our connection with God is not about a title we claim, but a deep, personal knowing.

This is why the words of John 1:11 are so significant:
"He came to that which was his own, but his own did __."

This is because "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth" (John 4:24). This scripture reveals our Father's nature. It makes it clear that anyone who wants to know Him, be His child, or be recognized by Him must be connected to Him by that same Spirit. When His people did not recognize Jesus, it was because they were not living in that spiritual connection.

This truth is powerfully echoed in John 8:19:
"Then they asked him, 'Where is your father?' 'You do not know me or my Father,' Jesus replied. 'If you knew me, you would know my Father also.'"
Knowing Jesus is a divine gift. It is a son who truly knows the father. This underscores the incredible importance of understanding our position as God's children. The Bible shows us that some were considered His people, yet they missed the heart of true sonship.

But for us who are in Christ, there is wonderful news and great encouragement! As His sons and daughters, we have a standing invitation to come into our Father's presence with boldness and confidence. Our God is never weary of His children; He always welcomes us.

"Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).
The blessings of being a son are beyond measure. We can live with the assurance that "everything that the Father has is mine" (John 16:15). Oh, what a glorious privilege this is!

Remembering that our God is a good Father, I encourage you, as His dear child, to start speaking His hope and promises over your life.
